Find the Part Behind the Symptom

Every page below describes the signs, the mechanism and the repair steps. If the door shows more than one symptom, choose the one it showed first, since later faults often grow out of it.

What the Sounds and Movements Reveal

A door rarely fails without leaving clues. A dry squeal at the hinges, a grinding each time a panel crosses the curve, a rhythmic thump from a flat roller and a faint groan from the shaft each come from different parts. Where in the travel the sound occurs matters as much as the sound.

Movement tells just as much. A door that leans as it climbs has uneven cables or a drifting drum. One that jolts at the top points to the horizontal track or a loosened bracket. A door that will not stay at mid-height is losing spring force. Noting these patterns before the repair narrows the search sharply.

Not Certain Which Page Fits?

Describe where the door catches, which side sits low and what it sounds like. Those details normally narrow it down to one repair page.
